Linux Engineer – Ubuntu

Joining the Linux Infrastructure Team of a leading software house, you will be responsible for enhancing the company’s on-premises Linux server infrastructure and cloud presence through design and implementation. Your passion for Linux and open-source technologies will be critical in creating a stable, reliable and supportable infrastructure. This position may involve learning new technologies, but offers training and courses to assist with upskilling you. Collaborating effectively within a team and taking initiative independently are essential qualities for this role.

Location: London or Cambridge, UK – you can be based from either office

Salary: Up to £50,00 plus benefits

Requirements for Linux Engineer

  • Proficiency in working with Linux operating systems, specifically Ubuntu, is a requirement for this position.
  • Expertise in virtualization and containerization technologies such as KVM, VMware, and Docker is essential.
  • You should possess experience using deployment tools like Ansible.
  • Essential qualifications for this role include the ability to write scripts using Python and/or Bash.
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure such as AWS and GCP is a must-have skill.
  • Proficiency in automation tools such as GitLab CI/CD and Terraform is crucial.
  • Essential qualifications also include proficiency in monitoring technologies like Elastic Stack, Nagios, Prometheus, and Cloudwatch.
  • While not mandatory, basic networking knowledge is desirable.

Responsibilities for Linux Engineer

  • As a Linux Infrastructure specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining and providing expert knowledge on all aspects of the company’s Linux infrastructure.
  • You will be expected to design and implement new processes and solutions that leverage automation, deployment tools, and scripting to enhance the company’s Linux infrastructure.
  • You will play a vital role in deploying hardware, as well as administering Linux server and lab environments for the development team.
  • A security-first mindset is essential to this role, and you will be required to advocate for best practices.
  • You will be an active participant in cross-team and cross-department meetings, providing opinions, ideas, and suggestions.
  • Additionally, you will be responsible for providing third-line in-hours support to troubleshoot complex Linux-related issues.
